What are Web Light pages and why are they useful

Generally speaking, any page is enabled for transcoding and from a traffic analysis point of view, both Google Analytics and Search Console report the traffic and impressions coming from Web Light in a recognizable way.As for Search Console , there is a filter within Search Appearance that helps us understand the (usually minimal) impact of results of this type.Following the steps in the image above thenerformance -> Search Appearance -> Weblight ResultsThis way, we can understand the precise amount of Weblight traffic.



As for Google Analytics , the metrics of the transcoded version of the Special Data page will be shown by inserting in the site So, if you have a page at mypage , the metrics for the untagged page are shown as page, while the metrics for the transcoded page are shown as page .Differences between AMP and Web LightLet's start by explaining that AMP is the acronym for Accelerated Mobile Pages , an expression which in Italian means accelerated pages for mobile. This alone explains the usefulness of AMP pages : they improve browsing performance from mobile devices thanks to the construction of lighter pages and more simply displayed content. They improve user experience and SEO performance , considering that loading speed and time spent on the site influence positioning.The final goal is similar to Web Light pages, i.e. to optimize mobile performance , but there are some differences.





AMP must be enabled , while Web Light is displayed to the user when Google detects a slow client .Different visibility . As we know, AMP pages are identified in search results with an icon . This stamp helps increase the volume of clicks and attract more traffic to the site. On the contrary, Google does not show any identifying sign , because in general it transcodes all pages that have a slow connection (obviously there are exceptions which we will see in the following paragraphs).In short, in the absence of AMP version mobile pages , when the internet connection of mobile devices is slow , Light Web pages come into action with the help of Google to allow users a good experience.
