The pandemic has changed the world as we knew it until just over a year ago. Suddenly, our habits, customs and routine stopped overnight to stop the spread of the virus, which continues to spread today despite the arrival of vaccines .

Although has a different result than because we are already recovering the long-awaited normality. But looking back at last year, in which we spent more time at home than away, a paradox is observed: despite having been at home more than ever , we have spent much less.

This is clear from the Family Budget Survey published by the Natio  Ghana Email List   nal Institute of Statistics (INE) , last year, which reflects a drop in domestic spending of more than %, leaving it at an average of close to , euros per home .

The fact that our lives were cut short had an impact on spending, especially considering that many people lost their jobs overnight. Thus, we had to buckle up more than ever and reduce expenses, which in many ways was very easy. But, exactly what do we save the most money on?

What we saved the most in
What were the spending categories in which Spaniards saved the most in ? Well, according to INE data, what we spent the least on was education , with an average outlay per household of euros . Taking into account that the children stopped going to class in March and began to 'tele-study' (something that was highly questionable), the need for materials and other school expenses was reduced to the maximum.

And it is an expense item that is not trivial, since families with several children make a significant outlay on education each year in books, materials, extracurricular activities and classes, clothing, etc.

We spent little more on alcoholic beverages last year , according to this report. In total, about euros per family . The fact that we couldn't leave the house greatly reduced the cost of socializing, since the meetings to have a drink via video call weren't enough and that cost wasn't covered in this way.

Furthermore, although the purchase of beer or wine in supermarkets increased , we are talking about low-alcohol drinks , so the expense is much lower. In the end, in Spain consumption is very social, and if interaction is nipped in the bud, consumption falls.

We spend euros on communications and euros on health . These would be the other two lowest spending categories, along with clothing and footwear items (another , euros) and home furniture , with about , euros for each home.

Therefore, we see that all the spending we cut was most related to activities outside the home , which we could not do last year. It will be necessary to see if this atypical we also recover those customs or the savings established during confinement (out of obligation) have really reached society.
