Since the beginning of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador's administration, the construction of rail transport that would connect five states of the Mexican peninsula has been one of the great objectives of his government; However, official data on the environmental impacts of the Mayan Train make us rethink whether it is responsible. Civil associations and local and international activists have raised their voices, they have even classified this project as ambitious and  unstable, and have even labeled it " ecocide ", due to the magnitude of natural and human resources that will be deployed to carry it out. The train must run no matter what As reported on the Mayan Train website , it will travel 1,500 km and cross the states of Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatán and Quintana Roo. It will also require an investment of 200,000 million pesos and will be completed by 2023 . This route has been shown as a supposedly positive alternative for the region, since the administration assures that it will bring improvements to the surrounding communities and generate economic reactivation and development for this area of the country.

The Mayan Train will bring prosperity and certainty to families in the southeast. National Fund for Tourism Promotion (FONATUR). Furthermore, FONATUR assures that "with the construction of the train approximately half a million jobs will be generated during the work", and with it a historical debt with that part of the country will be paid. The south-southeast region shows a significant concentration of economic activities in a limited number of urban centers. National Fund Afghanistan Phone Number List for Tourism Promotion (FONATUR). Likewise, the entity points out that the project contemplates the social, environmental and cultural axes, aspects that it emphasizes will benefit from consolidating this route. However, each of these areas has been criticized for the lack of a strategy that truly protects both human and natural diversity. Above all, the environmental impacts of the Mayan Train have remained in the "obscurantism", which have been denounced by several organizations dedicated to protecting the environment and to which a deaf ear has been turned.

Lack of environmental reports According to Greenpeace , the Mexican government has stated that there will be no damage to the environment, since it will be built on old roads; However, many national and international civil organizations have other data. For example, the Mexican Center for Environmental Law (CEDMA) assures that "the lack of certainty about the final outline of the project prevents identifying the specific impacts that could be caused to the habitat and terrestrial and coastal ecosystems." environmental impacts of the mayan train project This voice is joined by that of the Articulada Yucatán collective, which has pointed out that despite the numerous complaints made publicly and continuously about the problem of the Mayan train, the corresponding authorities have not given a response and have evaded their responsibilities by minimizing or discrediting those who report. The government's position has been clear or at least this is demonstrated by the decree on priority works , approved a year ago and which has a direct effect on the works of the Mayan Train, specifically on sections 5, 6 and 7, which go from Quintana Roo to Campeche.
